As we approach the final few weeks of semester 1 we would like to remind all EDSS students and caregivers of our approach to final evaluations.  It is important to remember that “Thirty percent of a student’s grade will be based on a final evaluation administered at or towards the end of the course. This evaluation will be based on evidence from a combination of the following: an examination, a performance, an essay, and/or other methods of evaluation suitable to the course content. The final evaluation allows the student an opportunity to demonstrate comprehensive achievement of the overall expectations in the course “  (p. 6, p.41, Growing Success).

Students will be required to complete these final evaluations, which may include formal examinations, during regular class time or on the three exam and evaluation days at the end of the semester (see below for more details).

The final instructional day of Semester 1 is on Friday, January 26, 2024.

EXAM AND EVALUATION DAYS – Monday, January 29 – Wednesday, January 31:

  • All students must be available to attend school on exam and evaluation days to complete assessment tasks, as requested by their teacher.
  • Courses with final evaluations occurring on these days have been outlined in this schedule. Teachers will also review this information with their classes.
  • On Tuesday, January 30th there are no formal written exams, but teachers will be available at regular class times. Some classes may have scheduled presentations or summative work during their normal class time. Please check with your teacher for specific expectations.
  • Students who are not required to complete evaluation tasks on these days are able to study at home; however, supervised study spaces will be available at school.
  • ACE students will attend school according to their regular schedule

School buses run on their regular schedule during these three days.

School closure –  If an exam and evaluation day is cancelled because of unforeseen circumstances (i.e. inclement weather, school closure), those assessments will be written on the next school day and all other assessments will be pushed back one school day.  No assessments will be rescheduled on the PD Day.
