February 15th, 2022
Dear EDSS Families,
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students in Grade 9 or 10 may not have been able to complete their Grade 7 vaccines provided by Public Health at their school. These vaccines include:
- Hepatitis B
- Human papillomavirus (HPV)
- Meningococcal (Meningitis)
If your child is in Grade 9 or 10 this school year, they are eligible to complete their school vaccine series. Please note that the Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines require two (2) doses given at least 6 months apart to fully protect against these diseases. Meningococcal ACYW-135 is provided as a one-time dose and is required by the Immunization of School Pupils Act.
Due to COVID-19, eligibility for some vaccines has been extended:
- Students born in 2006 and 2007 are eligible for the Hepatitis B vaccine until August 31, 2022
- Girls born in 2002 and 2003 remain eligible for the HPV vaccine until August 31, 2022
- Students in Grades 7 or later remain eligible until the Meningococcal ACYW-135 vaccine is received
