Dear Parents, Caregivers and Guardians:
This fall, the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) will again offer the online Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) to Grade 10 Ontario students and to those that still need to fulfill the literacy requirement. The OSSLT measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects based on the Grade 9 curriculum content. Successful completion of this literacy test is one of the compulsory requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary
School Diploma.
Grade 10 Students who are scheduled in English classes this semester will complete Session A of the OSSLT on Wednesday, November 13th and Session B on Thursday, November 14th. Each session is designed to be completed in approximately 60-75 minutes with extra time allowed for any student test-taker. Senior students and any grade 10s who miss one or both sessions of the OSSLT will write on Wednesday, November 20th at 8:00am in the library. After completing both sessions, students will have a chance to complete a questionnaire that asks them about their experiences, attitudes and perceptions with respect to literacy.
Prior to the assessment, Grade 10 students can participate in the online Practice Test anytime by going to eqao.com. This Practice Test will give them an opportunity to become familiar with the online test environment and with the kinds of questions they will see on the test. Students can access OSSLT Prep content by joining our Google EDSS OSSLT Student Classroom with the join code lmdgmdq and by accessing the EDS OSSLT Preparation 2425 course, preloaded with all kinds of content to help students get ready for the OSSLT. Students can connect to this course by going to
wrdsb.elearningontario.ca and logging in with their SchoolConnect username and password.
An Individual Student Report will be generated for each student after the scoring of the OSSLT. These reports will be available in late January. For more information about EQAO and to view the full Practice Test, you are encouraged to visit EQAO’s website at www.eqao.com.
