Hello Lancer community! On Friday, June 6th from 11am – 11pm, EDSS will be hosting an event called Relay for Life. Relay for Life is one of the largest fundraisers for the Canadian Cancer Society; and EDSS has committed to a fundraising goal of $40,000!

For this event, students are asked to form teams of 10 and fundraise $1000 amongst their team ($100 per team member). At all times, a minimum of one team member must be walking the track. For the team members who are “resting”, they are invited to participate in the continuous programming that we are offering inside the track. Teams can switch track-walkers at any point in time.

If your student is interested in participating in this event, they are required to pay a $20 registration fee – which pays for: a Relay for Life t-shirt, their meals for the day, entertainment, and a luminary bag (a white bag that can be decorated to commemorate: someone who has cancer; someone who is a cancer survivor; or someone who’s life was taken by cancer). Your student can register and fundraise for the event using the following website: https://support.cancer.ca/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLY_NW_even_?fr_id=30165&pg=entry.

The purpose of Relay for Life is to celebrate and remember those who have been affected by cancer. If you are living with cancer or you’re a cancer survivor, we would like to invite you to be our guest and join us for the Survivor’s lap, which is the first lap around the track to kickstart the event. If this is something you’re interested in, open the following link and click on Sign up as a survivor guest: https://support.cancer.ca/site/TR?type=fr_informational&pg=informational&fr_id=30165&sid=10461

For updates about Relay for Life, the group running this event has an Instagram account (@relay4life_edss), and we have a Google Classroom (code: uf73o2sr) that students can join. We have a live document answering any FAQs about this event that you are welcome to view:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P4bPUBT7fnHFUrfoDR0GHyaolzmvT2pWedXPeiYTtc0/edit?usp=sharing.

This event was launched to the school two weeks ago and we are beyond thrilled with the amount of support we’ve received by our students and community!
