EDSS Semester 1 Final Exam/Evaluation Days Information

Exam and Evaluation Days: January 23–28, 2026
Professional Development Day: January 29, 2026

The information provided here will allow  students to better prepare for the end of the semester exams and final evaluations.

Information about Final Evaluations

  • While 70% of a student’s grade is based on work completed during the term, 30% of a student’s grade in every course is based on final evaluations administered at or towards the end of the course (Growing Success, 2010).
  • Students may be required to complete one task or project, or they may be required to complete multiple components as part of the final evaluation for a course. Students will be required to complete all components of the final evaluation.
  • Final evaluations, including examinations, may occur during regular class time or may be scheduled during the four exam and evaluation days at the end of the semester (or a combination of both).
  • Regular class attendance and attention to school work are especially important during the month of January. Absences from any final evaluation must be validated by a parent or guardian. Failure to successfully complete final evaluations will affect a student’s final grade and may result in a failure to earn the credit.

Evaluation Days

At the end of each semester, there are four scheduled Evaluation Days. Semester 1 Exam and Evaluation Days are scheduled for the last week of January

Students will only attend the Evaluation Days if their courses have a scheduled activity (ie. exam or final evaluation) or if a teacher invites them for required extra help or credit rescue.

The four evaluation days at the end of the semester coincide with the four potential exams or final evaluations a student may need to complete.

          Friday, January 23rd : Period A Exams + Evaluations

Monday, January 26th: Period B Exams + Evaluations

Tuesday, January 27th: Period C Exams + Evaluations

Wednesday, January 28th: Period D Exams + Evaluations

Thursday, January 29th is a PD Day – students are not to attend school

Study Week – Exam Preparation Period

Starting January 16th, classes will remain in session but there will be a pause on field trips, WCSSAA practices

and/or games, school events and activities in order to provide students with an opportunity to focus on completing final evaluations.

Attendance Policy during Exam and Evaluation Days:

Students attend school only for their scheduled final evaluations or when they are invited by their teacher for extra help or credit rescue.

Attendance is recorded for all scheduled final evaluations and other learning opportunities, including exams, final evaluations, performance-based tasks and credit rescue opportunities.

Please do not plan events which require your student to be absent from school on these days.

Students who do not complete their final 30% (in its various forms) miss the opportunity  to provide recent evidence to demonstrate their growth and confirm their consistent level of performance.
