Dear Caregivers:
All students enrolled in Grade 9 Mathematics, MTH1W, are required to write the province-wide Grade 9 EQAO Assessment of Mathematics, which assesses the mathematics knowledge and skills students are expected to have learned by the end of this course. The curriculum material will have been presented and we will be reviewing it in class so we anticipate that our students will have the knowledge base to do well on this assessment.
The assessment activities include 4 sessions:
- January 14th: Introductory (Practice) Session: Students will have the opportunity to explore the online testing environment and try a Sample Test.
- January 15th and 16th: 2 Assessment Sessions: Students will write the assessment over 2 days in their math classrooms or a space where IEP accommodations of extra time can be supported. Each session is designed to be completed in approximately 60 minutes. Each session consists of 27 questions presented in a variety of formats. More details on the provincial testing as well as support materials, including a sample test that will be done in class, are available at the EQAO website at: https://www.eqao.com/the-assessments/grade-9-math/.
- Questionnaire: At the end of the two assessment sessions, students are presented with an online questionnaire that asks them about their attitudes and perceptions with respect to mathematics.
Please ensure that your child is present at school and in class for all of these assessment activities. To participate in this online testing, your child must use a fully-charged, charged board-issued Chromebook. If their chromebook is damaged or lost, please let the math teacher know so we can resolve this issue before the assessment dates.
We encourage students to take the review and testing process seriously as their results will count for 10% of the overall MTH1WI grade. Participating students will receive an individual report of their results prepared by EQAO.
We hope that this will be a pleasant and successful experience for our students.
Yours truly,
Mr. Sandy Millar, Mrs. Christine Ruza,
Principal Mathematics Department Head
